Video review for BJJ coaches.

Film on your phone, upload, and pin notes at the moments you want your student to come back to. AI scans the footage first so you’re not rewatching every minute to find a ten-second sequence.

What you get

The core of Kaynos is short: upload a video, drop notes at the right timestamps, send the link. Everything else on this list is stuff I wanted when I was on the mats.

Upload from the mat

Film on your phone between rolls and upload from the same device. GoPro and tripod files work too if you'd rather shoot with something dedicated.

Notes pinned to the timeline

Drop a note at 1:42 where you hit the sweep, or at 3:15 where the pass finishes. Students see the notes appear as the video plays and can reply on a specific moment.

Private rolls and shared classes

One-on-one session reviews stay between you and the student who rolled. Drill demos and comp footage go to the whole academy. Nobody sees material that wasn't meant for them.

Private by default

Videos are never public, and academies are fully isolated from each other. For gyms running a kids program, that also means no social feeds, no public profiles, and nothing an outsider can search to find your footage.

Dictate notes instead of typing

Tap the mic, talk, and the transcription comes back as a timestamped note you can edit before saving. Useful when you're working through a stack of rolls and don't want to keep pausing to type.

AI does the first pass

Upload the video and Kaynos runs an AI pass that drops timestamped placeholders on moments worth a second look. They're starting points, not finished notes — you keep, edit, or throw out each one.

How Kaynos stacks up

Side by side against CoachNow, OnForm, and the Google Drive + Vimeo setup a lot of gyms end up cobbling together.

Coming from another platform?

If you're on CoachNow, OnForm, or a Drive + Vimeo setup and you're thinking about moving over, send me a note. I'll set up your account, import your roster, and stay on a thread with you while you re-upload your most-watched videos. Migrations usually wrap inside a week.

How it works

Film the roll or the technique. A phone is enough. GoPros and tripod cameras work fine if that's already your setup. Students can also film at their own gym and send the footage back to you for review.

Upload and mark it up. Drag the video in, scrub to whatever you want to point at, and drop a note. Tag sessions however makes sense — by student, by technique, by tournament.

Send your student the link. They open it in a browser, watch with your notes appearing in place, and can reply on specific moments with questions of their own.

See it for yourself

Open either demo below. No signup, no email. It's the real app, loaded with sample BJJ data.

Both demos run on the same sample data. You can flip between the coach and student views without logging out.

Four ways coaches can use it

Sparring, comp prep, privates, remote coaching. Same set of tools under the hood; what changes is how you reach for them.

Daily sparring review

Film a few rolls each class, upload after, and let AI do a first pass on the moments worth talking through. Then send each student their own session so they can rewatch during the week.

  • Upload a roll and let AI flag the moments worth reviewing first
  • Pin a note at the exact moment the pass finishes
  • Dictate corrections hands-free while you watch — no typing between observations
  • See which students have actually watched their sessions

Why I built this

I train BJJ, and the most effective training always came from private lessons. I wanted a simple way to keep those sessions, along with my coach’s thoughts and feedback to help me improve.

Easy enough that my coach would actually use it with his other students, useful enough that I’d open it the night before every private. So that’s what I built.

Kaynos is independent and self-funded. If something’s broken or missing, I want to hear about it.

Still early days

Kaynos is new. There aren’t users to quote here yet. If you sign up now you’ll be one of the first, which mostly means you’ll have a direct line to me when something’s broken or missing.

Rather look before signing up? The demo is wired up with sample BJJ data and works without an account. Open the demo (opens in new tab)

Isolated by default.

Every academy is fully isolated. No social feeds, no public profiles, no way for anyone outside your gym to discover a video. Students see only their own sessions. If you run a kids program, that isolation isn't a setting you have to remember to flip on — it's the default.

Questions we get a lot

Flat $29/mo for the coach. Every feature is included and the price doesn't change as you add more student accounts. There are upload and storage limits on the plan. Cancel anytime. See pricing

Nothing. The coach is the only person on the account who pays. Students sign up through an invite link and get full access to their own sessions, their classes, and their notes at no cost. See pricing details

BJJ and MMA coaches first. The default AI prompt is written for jiu jitsu, so it gives more useful output on grappling footage than on anything else. Other grappling disciplines (judo, wrestling, submission grappling) work well too. If you teach striking or another sport entirely, the core workflow still works the same way — the AI is just less tuned to what you're watching. See use cases

No. Everything runs in the browser. Students log in from a phone or computer using the invite link you send them. Try the student demo

No. A private session is only visible to the student it's assigned to, the coach, and admins. Classes are different — those are visible to everyone at your gym, which is what makes them useful for comp footage and drill demos.

The plan continues at $29/mo. You can cancel anytime. No contracts, no cancellation fees. Start 14-Day Trial

Yes. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing month — you keep full access until then. After cancellation, videos and notes remain accessible for 30 days so you can download anything you want to keep, then the account is deleted. Nothing renews after you cancel.

There's no charge during the 14-day trial — cancel before day 14 and you pay nothing. After that the plan is month-to-month with no contract; cancel anytime and you won't be billed again. If you canceled mid-month and want a refund for the unused portion, email me and we'll sort it out. Email support

MP4, MOV, WebM, and MKV. Files up to 5 GB each. Phone exports, GoPro files, and camera exports all upload the same way. Try the coach demo

Yes. You can upload video, add notes, and manage your roster straight from a phone browser. Most coaches using Kaynos film on a phone and upload right after class on the same device.

Yes. Both coaches and students can upload. It's especially useful for remote coaching — a student films a roll at their home gym, uploads it, and you review on your own schedule.

It takes your uploaded video, runs a grappling-focused analysis pass, and drops timestamped placeholders on moments worth a second look — submission attempts, sweep entries, guard passes, takedown setups, scrambles, and position changes are the kinds of things it tends to surface. You go through each placeholder and either turn it into a note for the student, edit it, or throw it out. It's a starting point for your review, not a replacement for it, and you should expect to discard some flags and add your own — especially for moments like stalling or subtle pressure that don't visually pop.

Videos are kept for at least 6 months. Older videos cycle out past the retention window to free up storage. An active account keeps recent content indefinitely. If the account is canceled, videos stay for 30 days before deletion.

Yes. Individual videos download from the session view. The admin panel ships a full JSON export of your roster, sessions, notes, and metadata, plus a roster CSV. For a bulk video archive of an entire account (useful before cancellation), email support and we'll set it up. Email support

Every academy is isolated from every other one. Students only see their own sessions. There are no social features, no public profiles, and no way for anyone outside the academy to discover content. Videos are encrypted in transit and at rest. For gyms running a kids program, that isolation is the point — there's no path for someone outside the gym to find the footage. See security details

If Kaynos ever winds down, the plan is to give meaningful advance notice and an export window so every coach can pull their videos and notes out before anything goes away. Kaynos is independent and self-funded — not VC-pressured — so there's no investor with a 'shut it off' option above me. Hosting, storage, and database all run on major providers (Netlify, Backblaze, Neon) with their own continuity guarantees. See sub-processors

You'll get an email at about 80% of either limit so there's no surprise mid-class. If you hit the ceiling, new uploads pause until the next billing cycle (older videos also cycle out past the 6-month retention window, which can free up storage on its own). If you regularly bump the ceiling, email me — I'd rather know and work out a plan than have you blocked. Email support

Each coach gets their own Kaynos account at $29/mo. In a multi-coach gym, each coach manages their own roster. For larger schools with 50+ active students across several coaches, reach out — I can work out team pricing. Contact about teams

Yes. Tag sessions with whatever makes sense to you — guard, takedowns, passing, comp prep, student name. Use the search palette (Cmd+K or Ctrl+K) to jump to sessions, students, or notes from anywhere in the app.

Yes. The admin panel shows active student counts, session stats, storage usage, and videos approaching retention. You can export your roster as CSV or pull a full JSON data export. Optional weekly or monthly email reports are available.

Yes. There's a built-in calendar with session scheduling, conflict checks, ICS export, and email reminders. Instructors set their weekly availability and add exceptions for one-off changes. Students can request a private lesson through the booking flow with approval. See what's shipped
